You use a glass mirror to see your face; you use works of art to see your soul.

George Bernard Shaw

A BRIEF BIOGRAPHY

Svetlana Borisova was born in Neksikane, north Siberia, on the border with the Kamchatka peninsula, where her father surveyed the local geology for important mineral resources.

The house in which she was born stood on the confluence of 3 rivers, a land full of contrasts in which only the strong survive. At the age of 17 months she was almost abducted by an eagle, only to be saved by her siberian baby-sitter dog.

These places are characterised by a very long winter, followed by  in fast succession by spring and  summer. A land in which mother nature has a very strong and visible presence, a land whose colors undergo fast, drastic and turbulent changes.

It's in this context that the artist's nature and strong character was forged: a generous mother, an impetuous stream of siberian vitality, a formidable resource of energy and inventiveness.

As a young girl, Svetlana moved to Moscow with her family in order to complete her studies and become a physical rehabilitation specialist.

After that she met and fell in love with an italian boy, eventually causing her to move to Rome, Italy, where she now resides with her husband Enrico and her son Cesare.

Artworks - Elements of inspiration

Birch

This work of art takes inspiration from an indelible memory of a day in my early teens.
That day I suffered unjustly physical and mental offenses and at the end of the "punishment" I ran away from home crying profusely and as usual I found refuge in a Birch Forest.
It was a day at the beginning of June, I was running and as soon as I entered the woods I experienced a "magical" moment:
the grass on which I ran was tall and of a bright green color, illuminated by the Sun, and caressed my bare feet moved by a breeze of gentle morning wind. My legs gave out and I fell on the soft ground with my stomach down. The tears soon stopped, but I lay down enveloped by the musky smell of the undergrowth, the sound of the rustling of birch leaves, the caress of the wind and the color of the fresh grass, finally feeling consoled.

My heart slowly calmed down with the inhalation of the musky smell of the undergrowth.
After some time I turned on my stomach and the first thing I saw was the Birch with its white trunk, like mother-of-pearl, and velvety black.
Its branches descended almost to the ground and the small leaves turned in the wind showing their colors, green on one side and silver on the other. Beauty enveloped me while with my eyes still full of tears I gradually ran the trunk upwards until a strong pulsating light prevailed over every other vision.
I was dazzled by the vision of the Sun which, through the eyes half-closed in tears, appeared as an Immense Gold Disk.
Time ceased to flow ... On my way home, my essence had turned into Pure Joy.

Beyond Logic

In my artwork "Beyond Logic" I have expressed my emotions and feelings about the limits that too often Logic and the mind place on our path, preventing us from "taking flight".
I strongly believe that the rational mind always sets limits and that it takes a big heart to break them and go beyond  by resuming or starting one's flight.
These concepts are represented by the walls of the fortress that surround Logic and which at a certain point begin to crumble.
At the base of the fortress lie the wings that have been broken by too many limits imposed.
The network of universal energies flows all around and the soul freed from limits can finally flow in harmony in this welcoming and positive cosmic sea, full of energy, perspectives and potential.

ARTISTIC EVOLUTION

After a lifetime spent in close contact with people researching physical and spiritual well-being, Svetlana began to feel an ever-growing series of strong, creative impulses which eventually launched her into a new, artistic dimension.

During her first artistic phase,  Svetlana preferred medium was colored chalk drawings. She then moved on to the use of oil paints on canvas, which to this day are her prevalent form of expression.

The most striking aspects of Svetlana's art are characterised by the use of a lively color palette and the artist's capacity to find fascinating and dazzling combinations, applied to a wide variety of strongly symbolic subjects which are concerned with the journey of the inner being to the outer world. It's through these elements that the artist's very soul shines.
